Fresh Fruit
Apples, pears, berries, citrus and whatever the season sends. Sold loose, by the bowl or by the box.
Ystrad Mynach · Family run since 2014
Fresh fruit and veg picked for the counter every morning, farm eggs, bakery bread, and a delivery van that calls right across the valleys. Run by Susanne and Simon Evans, born and raised in Ystrad Mynach.
Our Shop
Look for the green sign on Penallta Road. Inside you'll find produce stacked the proper way: loose, fresh and weighed in front of you, with no plastic trays and no mystery about where it came from.
Alongside the fruit and veg we stock milk, bakery bread, farm eggs, and shelves of jams, marmalades and chutneys. If you can't see what you're after, ask. We can usually get it in for the next morning.
What We Sell
The counter follows the seasons, so the list below is the everyday backbone rather than the whole story.
Apples, pears, berries, citrus and whatever the season sends. Sold loose, by the bowl or by the box.
From Sunday-dinner roots to salad leaves and herbs. Picked over by hand before they reach the shelf.
Fresh bakery bread, cakes and biscuits. Get there before lunch for the best of it.
Farm eggs, fresh milk and cream, so the corner-shop run and the veg run become one trip.
Mrs Darlington's jams and chutneys, Snowdonia Cheese, condiments, sweets and Wall's ice lollies for the walk home.
We supply restaurants, cafés, pubs and schools across the area, with prepped veg available to order.
Deliveries
Ring your order through and Howard brings it to your door. No delivery charge, no minimum fuss. Through the pandemic the van kept whole streets fed, and it hasn't stopped since.
Our Story
Susanne and Simon Evans open Veg of Evans on 26 September 2014, under the glass roof of Jones Arcade. Simon's father Howard takes on the deliveries.
While the town shuts, the shop stays open. The family packs boxes for NHS workers and vulnerable neighbours, with Susanne's mother Jane and granddaughter Chloe drafted in to keep up.
In November 2023 the shop moves around the corner to 16 Penallta Road: a bigger window, more shelf space, and the same faces behind the till.
A decade of early mornings, marked the way the shop does everything: quietly, with fundraising for Velindre and Macmillan along the way.
